Bumblebees live in colonies with a single queen of about 50 or so members. Generally friendly compared to their honey bee cousins they have long been a favourite of mine.
I have made this piece using two techniques. The vessel is made in the hot glass workshop, I have then cut and polished the side open to reveal the inner space. I have then created the nest and bumblebees and secured them inside.
